GQ means Golden Quill. Each year, the Golden Quills honors dozens of journalists and news outlets for storytelling and reporting. Can someone pinch a jag? Since this is the only acceptance speech opportunity, bear with us.
John wanted an outlet to be punny, light-hearted, and part of Pittsburgh culture. Rachael had some journalism experience and wanted a way to tell Pittsburgh stories differently. Together we are YaJagoff, seven years strong with a team that is a force to be reckoned.
Like all other media outlets, we submitted snippets of our podcast in categories; seven to be exact. We got word that five of them were finalists in five categories.
Much to our surprise, not once, or twice, but three times last night our name was called followed by a clip. Our work was good enough. Not just good enough, award worthy. We won in the sports, lifestyle, and medical/health categories. A demolition derby in Fayette County, a meet up with powerful Pittsburgh women, and a service dog snagged us the W’s.
