4:00 Karen Phillips, Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary

Karen hosts us this weekend. Karen is a veterinary surgeon who got the idea of Hope Haven after feeling upset by the number of unwanted ducks, pigs and roosters being surrendered at the shelter where she worked. And the big news is that Karen will be expanding in Harmony. She’ll still keep the Wexford location but the Harmony location will allow her to get more animals that she can rescue. She wants to continue the education aspect of the sanctuary. There are plenty of tours and events and Karen would love to see you at the farm! There are volunteering opportunities available and donations are always welcome. Check out www.HopeHavenFarm.org for more and follow these amazing animal adventures on socials: Facebook @HopeHavenFarmSanctuary Instagram @HopeHavenFarm Snapchat @KarenAnimalVet

20:25 Melissa Rayworth, Kidsburgh

Melissa, the Executive Editor of Kidsburgh, joins us on the pod. Melissa has spent two decades writing about families, parenting, culture and design for global and regional magazines and news outlets. More than a decade ago, a group of community leaders, child advocates and educators in Pittsburgh had a big dream and thus Kidsburgh was born. Kidsburgh serves local families and caregivers with the goal in mind to help them discover the many resources for children and to offer reporting and export advice about the challenges of raising healthy, thriving children. 32:52 Gavin Deming, Allegheny GoatScape

Gavin is the executive director of Allegheny GoatScape, a nonprofit that brings small herds of goats to wanted places to eat up unwanted vegetation. Working in and around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Allegheny GoatScape accomplishes this mission by partnering with organizations, landowners, and businesses and allowing the goat herd to eat vegetation on the overgrown properties. Allegheny GoatScape’s mission is to reduce invasive and unwanted vegetation in public spaces and vacant lots, utilizing goats for browsing.
