It’s a winner take all battle with a big-ticket reward for pitch perfect vocal teams who can deliver at the grand opening of the 10th Peoples Gas Holiday Market in Market Square on Friday, November 19 from 6:00-9:00pm. The $5,000 grand prize Merry Karaoke Team Tournament will fill the BJ’s Sounds of the Season Stage in Market Square with holiday favorites on the eve of Highmark Light Up Night®.

Hosted by YaJagoff podcast hosts Rachael Rennebeck and John Chamberlin, the evening of vocal virtuosity will kick off with Heather Abraham and David Highfield leading their Pittsburgh Today Live colleagues in a rendition of a surprise holiday tune, selected by votes from their fans.  Winners will also go on to perform for crowds at Highmark Light Up Night® on Saturday, November 20.

Registration for the new event is now open on a first come first served basis for up to 16 teams of at least 3 people. Each team is required to compete with a different singer for each round, with local celebrity judges scoring based on technical ability, stage presence, and more, combined with a live audience vote via an ‘applause-o-meter’.

Participating teams will select from a group of non-profits who will receive half of the grand prize should they win. The non-profits include organizations like The Community Food Bank, Humane Animal Rescue, and 412 Food Rescue.

Then, it is family time to the max with the 60th annual lighting of downtown where every building in Pittsburgh’s dramatic skyline will be illuminated, providing a vibrant backdrop for a fun-filled evening of holiday festivities that include tree lightings, live music, craft foods, shopping, music, and of course, a spectacular fireworks finale from Zambelli Internationale.
