Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?

Positive family preparing lunch together in the kitchen

September is #familymealsmonth and it is time to create an #enabled table. What do I mean by that? Everyone at the table, without devices or distractions and engaged in meal participation with positive conversation. And what you choose to eat is less important than eating together. So whether you are cooking from scratch, having pizza, burgers or ordering out,  being together is what matters, even if you are eating later in the evening.

So why is this so important? Having meals together may lower the risk of child and adolescent eating, alcohol and substance use, violent behavior, and feelings of depression or thoughts of suicide in adolescents. Plus, having frequent family meals can improve self-esteem and school success. AND if you eat together as a family- you know where your kids are.

When our older son went to college, one of the first things he told us was how much he missed eating together as a family. #musictomyearswithafewtears

Here are some of the infographics from the food marketing institute- www.fmi.org that highlight #familymealsmovement. Share some of your family meals pics with us!

So whether you are eating before a soccer of football game, between music or dance lessons, or after 8 when everyone can be in one place. Take a seat at the table to #nourishtoflourih, set the foundation with lively conversation and know that you are helping your kids to strive and thrive
