Special Pop-up at the National Aviary – Day 2 (A Secret Aviary Friend – Curl-crested Aracari)

John Chamberlin

National Aviary

The Jags get to meet one of the Armadillo “secret friends” from the pop-ups that are only going on in August. This friend is the Curl-crested Aracari!

ONE MONTH ONLY:

• Meet one of the two Southern Three-banded Armadillos, Willy or Wonka, alongside an Aviary expert!

• Watch as Willy or Wonka tap into their natural curiosity to explore their surroundings and forage using their strong sense of smell.

• Get the opportunity to hand-feed him a few of his favorite treats!

• Learn about an armadillo’s armor and ability to roll into a ball, two unique adaptations that protect them from predators.

• Explore the importance of biodiversity within shared ecosystems (as in, different plant and animal species living together) through a visit from another special Aviary friend!

Other Aviary special friends you might meet are:

• Carmen or Izzy

• Central Asian Tortoise Natasha

• Four-toed Hedgehog Doris
