Are you ready to watch some talented young chefs compete for the title of Steel Chef? You’re in luck because Focus On Renewal (FOR) is hosting its third Steel Chef Cook-Off Competition on Monday, March 27th, 2023, at the Barverso Theater in the Father Ryan Arts Center in McKees Rocks, PA. From 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm, you’ll witness culinary magic and delicious creations being made right before your eyes!
The Steel Chef Program is a free ten-week immersive culinary arts workshop for high school students. The program aims to teach teens the tools and education they need to prepare healthier foods while also providing valuable skills needed to work in restaurant kitchens and exposure to careers in the restaurant industry. This year, nine local chefs from various organizations, such as Casa Brasil and Driftwood Oven, have taught the students new skills and cooking techniques. The program culminates in the high-caliber live cooking competition known as the Steel Chef Cook-Off Competition.
During the competition, Chefs Natalie, Zach, and Andy will be the Mentor Chefs onstage with the teams, helping them to create the best dishes possible. The teams will then present their dishes to the esteemed judges, including WQED Producer and Documentarian Rick Sebak, Chef Keyla, and Chef Mark. With such a talented panel of judges, the competition will surely be fierce!
All ten high school students participating this year are from Sto-Rox High School, and previous Steel Chef Cook-Off Competitions have sold out quickly thanks to the community’s support and our sponsors.
