OpenStreetsPGH 2023: A Celebration of Active Living in Pittsburgh

It’s time to lace up your walking shoes, strap on your helmets, and mark your calendars!

OpenStreetsPGH is returning for 2023, bigger and better than ever! Hosted by BikePGH, OpenStreetsPGH is a free community event that invites people of all ages and abilities to explore our beautiful city sans motor vehicles.

Taking place on the last Sundays of May, June, and July, the event temporarily transforms miles of streets into car-free zones perfect for walking, running, biking, rollerblading, and more. This year’s OpenStreetsPGH kicks off on Sunday, May 28th, from 10 am to 2 pm, offering an exciting route from North Shore to South Side.

Imagine meandering from the bustling heart of North Shore through the vibrant Golden Triangle, traversing the Armstrong Tunnel without the usual traffic hum, crossing the iconic 10th Street Bridge, and soaking in the lively atmosphere of East Carson St. Sounds surreal, doesn’t it? Well, it’s all possible at OpenStreetsPGH.

The spirit of OpenStreetsPGH aligns with a global movement seeking to reclaim streets for people. Across the world, hundreds of cities host open street events to foster healthier lifestyles, strengthen communities, and promote sustainable modes of transportation.

The event series is meticulously organized by Bike Pittsburgh, a non-profit organization tirelessly advocating for a safer, more accessible city for bikers and walkers alike. Beyond organizing OpenStreetsPGH, Bike Pittsburgh is dedicated to policy advocacy, infrastructure improvement, and education. They work all year round to provide resources that encourage more Pittsburghers to switch to car-free commuting.

OpenStreetsPGH offers more than just open streets, though. Engage in free fitness classes at the wellness hub, watch your kids learn biking at our kids hub, savor delicious food from local vendors, and partake in fun activities hosted by local organizations.

By participating in OpenStreetsPGH, you’re not just joining an event but becoming part of a movement. You’re standing up for cleaner, healthier, and more inclusive streets.

Join other outdoor enthusiasts this May to experience Pittsburgh in a new light. Embrace the freedom of open streets, and celebrate the joy of active living. For any inquiries, please reach out to openstreetspgh@bikepgh.org or call 412-325-4334.
