Industrial Arts Workshop in Pittsburgh Airport

The Jags jaggin around with some art culture at the Industrial Arts Workshop which empowers youth by blending creative expression with technical training.

During the Summer Welding Bootcamp, students master industry-standard welding techniques and gain hands-on experience in metal fabrication. For many students, this program is their first step toward a high-demand career. In December, eight students from IAW’s After School Welding Lab earned the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 certification, a nationally recognized credential for welding professionals. This certification not only validates their technical abilities but also opens doors to immediate employment or further education.

For IAW, administering the AWS D1.1 certification test marks a significant milestone in its mission to combine workforce development with artistic exploration. Currently, there is a display, of their work, at Pittsburgh International Airport. Through their achievements, the students at IAW are proving that art and industry can intersect to create something truly impactful. The art exhibition invites the public to experience that intersection firsthand, offering a testament to the power of education, creativity and community.
