You may not have even known that there was a national day to celebrate Peter Mark Roget’s book which was started in 1848 and finished in 1852 with 15,000 words. We think that he wrote it while waiting in traffic on the Parkway East at 6:45am-ish between the Churchill exit and the Squirrel Hill Tunnels. It takes about the same time to complete the drive.
Thanks to this book, we can do more than just tell friends we are happy but merry, delighted, and overjoyed! We can do more than have a conversation, but a discussion, a talk, or an exchange! We can do more than call someone a friend, a buddy, a pal …. a jagoff!! But wait, if you’re from Pittsburgh, whey would you EVER want to say anything different than, “How ya doin’ Ya Jagoff?” when you see a longtime friend, buddy or pal.
We’re not mad that the word Jagoff is not in the thesaurus, we’re kinda glad because, we are now sure that there literally is no other substitute, in the world, for the phrase… Ya Jagoffs!!
